MYKONOS 21-23 JUNE 2013

On June 21st, the day of the summer solstice, opens the first Mykonos Biennale. For four days the island was animated with exhibitions and performances spreading throughout its many museums and historic monuments and buildings.
After the sun sets the beautiful open theatre, Cine Manto, will host an international short film and art video festival. More than seventy artists, including Lucas Samaras, Steve Mc Queen, Takis, Karen Finely, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Stephen Antonakos, Colette Lumiere, Chiara Clemente will participate in this festival which was conceived by the artist Lydia Venieri and the film maker Andonis Kioukas and is curated by Pier Luigi Tazzi, Adonis Volanakis, Lee Wells, Katie Peyton and Ed Steinberg.
This island that was beloved by Picasso and Breton, by the first nudists and hippies, by the world of art and fashion became the alternative symbol of the transcendental thought. This legacy makes Mykonos the ideal host for this original project which contains poetic excursions to the sacred island of Delos, interactive theatrical parties and philosophical dialogues with this years festival theme of "Crisis and Paganism".
